Overview
In short: We ask before we track. Nothing non-essential runs until you click Accept in the cookie banner — no analytics or advertising cookies are set until then. You can change your mind at any time from the controls further down this page.
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies we use on kurlybrains.com, why we use them, and how you can manage your choices. It works alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers how we handle personal data more broadly.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website can place on your device to remember information between visits or pages. "Similar technologies" cover related tools that do much the same job — including localStorage, a small store built into your browser that lets a site save a value on your device without using a traditional cookie.
Some of these are strictly necessary — the site cannot remember your basic choices without them. Others are optional and only run with your permission, such as cookies that help us understand how the site is used.
How we use cookies
We keep this simple and consent-first. Our analytics run through Google Tag Manager configured with Google Consent Mode v2, and we operate it deny-by-default. That means:
- When you first arrive, all analytics and advertising storage is set to denied. No analytics or advertising cookies are set.
- Nothing optional fires until you click Accept in the cookie banner. Only then may Google Analytics and any Google advertising tags load and set their cookies.
- If you click Decline, those tags stay off and no analytics or advertising cookies are set.
To avoid asking you on every visit, we remember your choice in your browser's localStorage under the key "kurly-brains-cookie-consent" (with a value of "accepted" or "declined"). This is strictly functional — it only stops the banner from reappearing and is never used to track you.
Types of cookies
Here is what may be stored on your device, grouped by category. The optional categories only ever apply after you click Accept.
| Category | Examples | Purpose | Set when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | "kurly-brains-cookie-consent" (localStorage) | Remembers your consent choice so we don't ask again | Always |
| Analytics | _ga, _gid (Google Analytics via GTM) | Measures how the site is used so we can improve it | Only after you Accept |
| Advertising | Google advertising/conversion cookies via GTM | Supports advertising and conversion measurement | Only after you Accept |
Manage your cookies
You're in control. Use the buttons below to accept or decline optional cookies, or to reset your choice entirely. Resetting reloads the page so the banner reappears and Consent Mode returns to its deny-by-default state.
Browser controls
On top of the controls above, your browser gives you its own tools to block or delete cookies and clear site storage. You'll usually find these under Settings → Privacy, and most browsers let you clear data for a single site or for everything at once.
One thing to keep in mind: if you block or clear essential storage, you'll also wipe the "kurly-brains-cookie-consent" value that remembers your choice — so the cookie banner will appear again on your next visit. For step-by-step instructions, see your browser's own help pages (for example, Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge).
